(Work in progress)
Although I can build websites I am (obviously) by no means an artist or graphic designer. I try to keep the site low-maintenance and simple. This is made easier by keeping the content -written in XHTML 1.0 Strict- and the, ahem, style separate in CSS.
The current version of this site uses Wordpress to manage all the pages and posts. The photograph albums are managed using Gallery. Originally the site was written in HTML using Dreamweaver MX. To reduce maintenance (and get more power) I learnt PHP and then wrote all the XHTML, CSS and PHP using UltraEdit, my favourite text editor (on Windows anyway). The PHP would be tested on my computer by virtue of the WAMPServer 5 before uploading.
The web page template was actually a PHP page that included 2 other PHP files, a header file and a footer file. The meat of the page would be written in between the require statements for these files.
Gallery is used now but previously I have used Web Generator, which is very good and ULead which was absolutely diabolical. Replacing all the ULead albums saved several Mb of space.
I believe that websites should be accessible by everyone and have worked hard to make this site conform to accessibility standards and guidelines. My Access Keys page is an example of this work. I have also tested the site using Lynx and IBM’s Home Page Reader software (a text to speech convertor).
All images, photos and buttons are created in either Paintshop Pro or Photoshop.
My blog is powered by Wordpress of course, previously I used Blogger, and before that the older diaries were written directly in HTML.
No Javascript is used on this site.
